The Beach of Scheveningen, The Hague

Right after our tour of the Hague, our class enjoyed a great time at the beach of the coastal town, Scheveningen. This was perhaps my favourite event of the whole field trip because I live for swimming. The water was at a great temperature to boot. We also happened to enjoy the sand and sun at the same time as the annual kite festival. Huge kites in such shapes of whales, octopi, and manta rays were flying high.

In the distance was a large oil rig platform, oil being a heavy export for this region. There was also a long, long line of freight ships all travelling to Rotterdam Port. It made sense that there was that large a number of ships but I wasn’t anticipating that many regardless. It just goes to show the immense capitalism of the northern hemisphere and all of the countries that rely on trade and transport.
